Well I'm plumbing my Skimmer and everywhere BUT reefs.org rates the SEN 700 at 700 GPH and the MAG 7 at 700 GPH.

Whats this mean to me?

Reefs.org rates the SEN 700 at 852 GPH ad it comes with an optional 3/4" slip..

MAG 7 is rated at 700 GPH nd comes with a 1/2" slip...

the Skimmer I have has an attachment for a 3/4" Slip

I don't know if the extra 152 GPH from the SEN pump will affect the skimming ability of the skimmer. If this is the case then I should go and order a SEN pump??

Which skimmer is this, and what is the purpose of the pump in this skimmer? I assume it's driving a venturi or beckett. In this case, a more powerful pump will produce more foam fractionation, but just make sure your output can handle the increased flow. 150gph is significant.

I wonder if this is an AquaC EV Series skimmer.

If it is, I'll then give my 2 cents.

Len is spot on, as usual.

I would get the SEN 700, BUT...

...make sure you thoroughly clean it out every 6 months. If you don't, it will crap out on you in about 2 years. That's been my expensive experience (a few times, actually  ), anyway .

will the mag 700 completely fail at life if I used it?

Absolutely not. After 3 Sen 900s, I just switched to a Mag 18 on my EV-240. I love it.

Ok So I'm safe using the Mag 7 or should i go out and basically spend 80 bucks on a SEN pump and deal with the issues that arise from it. From my experience the MAG series of pumps while heat seekers are fairly dependable and used alot in the hobby. The SEN series while seemingly flashier I have not heard about. The only thing I can't figure out is what to do about the slip fitting. I mean the MAG 7 comes with a smaller slip fitting than what the Skimmer input requires. I can change the slip fitting but it dosent seem to connect to the mag because its large. I know the SEN pumps come with 2 types of barbed fittings. DO they sell barbed fittings that connect to the mag series for a particular connection?

Ok I just contacted the WON Brothers. The Sen 700 Pump is rated at 700 GPH at a 3' -

I'm going with the Mag. I can't justify spending 80 dollars on a pump when I have a perfectly good one sitting here in front of me.

K.. Lol I feel like im talking to my self but I think I have solved the problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Sen 700 while getting crappier reviews DOES perform at a 3' head pressure BETTER than the Mag 7

the MAG 7 puts out 500 GPH and the SEN puts out over 700. Thats why its not the better pump.

The MAG 9.5 is the better choice in this case than the SEN b/c of Reliability and cost. Well Really ANY pump better than the Mag 7 but that performs at a head pressure of above or equal to 700gph at 3 feet will do great. I'm happy to know that. /phew..... I did NOT like the reviews of the SEN series pumps.

AquaCave had the SEN 700 Pumps for 64 + shipping at a little over 75 Bucks

SEN 700 - 75 Shipped
Pro's : at 1 Foot or less which is how far the pump will be from Input to skimmer it provides 815 GPH at 3 foot 700GPH More Consistent GPH
Con's : bad reviews, montly maintenence, unable to find good reviews about it more expensive than MAG pumps. Comes with 3/4inch adaptor.

SEN 900 - 106.99 Shipped (The Best Performing one based on 1 Other That Used it)
Pro's : at 1 Foot or less which is how far the pump will be from Input to skimmer it provides 1050GPH at 3 foot 925GPH More Consistent GPH
Con's : bad reviews, montly maintenence, unable to find good reviews about it more expensive than MAG pumps almost double. Thermally protected easier to PLUMB comes with 3/4inch Adaptor

MAG 7 - Free I got one!
Pro's : Reliable and it was free. Small footprint and dosen't toss much heat into the water.
Con's :Will underperform b/c of not enough Head Pressure. At 1 Foot it delivers 650ish GPH and at 3 feet it delivers 500 gph.

Mag 9.5 - 99 LFS
Pro's : Will Satisfy entire needs of she skimmer. Will not over power it like Sen 900 which would require turning down. Works well with Beckett Skimmer. Purchased from LFS so no wait time. No Shipping time. No Wasted Gas picking up package from post office because I get home after they deliver it. I can return it easily if it breaks... Dependable and well known. Easy maintenence.
Con's : Needed to purchase 3/4" barb adaptor. It is larger than the other 3 pumps. It will probably throw off more heat into the water. A Little Bulky in the sump but not too bad.

I decided to go with the MAG 9.5 and 40lbs of Argonite + 40 lbs of Live Sand. 216 Dollars Later + a 50 dollar 5 Gallon Bucked of Salt and I was done. Now I'm poor but can setup my tank!............

I got bad news though. I might not be able to have a refugium because of space constraints. :( I'll try though.
