I will be inheriting a rather large tank, 4 or 5 feet long guessing it is a 120G or larger. With this tank will come a custom built stand and canopy. There is one overflow in the center of the tank.

The concern I have is the fact that the person whole currently owns the tank had used hard cleaners on the tank to get rid of the salt build up. She often uses window cleaner on the glass to clean it.

I do not have the funds to purchase a replacement tank so I am looking for suggestions and comments on whether this tank will be usable as a reef tank. I understand that I may have to do an elongated cycling period or possibly have to purchase some other product to get rid of the chemicals. I will compare the cost of the products to the cost of a replacement tank.

I plan on using the tank as a display tank for my new business. I also hope to replicate an Indo-Pacific reef not sure of the type of reef I'm looking to build. Looking for suggestions.

Thanks

Hard cleaner as is that vinegar stuff to get rid of calcium deposits from hard water? That won't leave anything behind, just rinse the tank out really well.

Did she use window cleaner on the inside? Or just the outside? On the outside, you can use anything you want to clean it. On the inside, I'm not sure if Windex leaves behind any kind of residue.

I am sure you will be fine if you give the tank a few good scrubs and rinses with water only.

Before I set up my tank, it was sitting around and I needed a place to keep a few hundred crawdads, so I used that. Long-story short....they left the worst smell in the tank and lots of other stuff because a few died.

I took the tank out in the yard and used 401 to scrub the inside of tank down (just take some breathers if you are in a large tank  ). After that I just filled and drained the tank every couple of days for two weeks. It is now set-up and I have not had any problems at all.
