The boiling event was bad, but not anywhere near as bad as the post-flatworm era. Flatworm Exit really did a number on my tank. The fish were all on the verge of death (gasping, total deterioration of the fins, et al.) post treatment, but luckily, all but one survived and are doing fine now.

A lot of my SPS bleached as well. Most of the Acroporas are fine now though. However, my Monitporas did not make it. I lost nearly all of them except for my Sunset Monti ... about a dozen colonies in all. I also lost other encrusting SPS like Porites. I'm not sure why the branching SPS fared better, but I'm thankful.

My peppermint shrimps and emerald crabs died, so Valonia and Aiptasia began popping up again. Those critters were doing a lot more then I credited them for. I got more Peppermints, so all the Aips on the rocks are gone now (I never see the Peppermints though, not even at night). The new Emeralds haven't dented the Valonia yet though.

All in all, tank is on the rebound, but not where it should be. I need to hack apart the dead Montiporas to make room for replacements. I may just go all Acroporas from hear on out (not sure if the tank is ready for new Montiporas).

The thought has crossed my mind to re-aquascape the tank into something a lot more minimalistic. I don't think I can motivate myself to go that route though.

Louey, in case you're reading this, the Purple Monster is doing great and all the purple is back :D

I am basically tankless at this point I had some problems in my SPS tank last year and just gave up. I still have a office tank and a tank in my sons room but thats all.

I am getting ready to reset up my SPS system after christmas. Atleast I am not the only one who had some problems, hearing all your woes makes me feel a little better lol.

Good Luck, I am sure your tank will be killer when we all see it eventually.

Sounds like a real tough year Len. Your tank must be ready for better times ahead.

Makes my AEFW plague seem so petty after reading your update.
Also, If you are thinking reaquscape you'd better do it now or you'll regret it.

Every time I tried going tankless, I got the itch very quickly. I've decided I am having a tank my whole life, however painful it might sometimes be :P

Wow, I had no ill effects from flat-worm exit when I used it.... I spent weeks reducing the numbers before I used the product though as I understand it is the dying flatworms that cause the issue rather than the fw exit itself.

Did you have a load of the little buggers when you used the product?

I have them again after being free of them for a long while. I'm a little wary of the product as there is a lot more of them this time. I've been siphoning them out every night for two weeks now in the hope of getting to a level where their deaths won't nuke the tank....every night though I find plenty.

Should have taken some pictures earlier in the year before all this happened. :D

But I'm glad to hear things are better now. Take your time to get it right again, just like you always do. ;)

I am glad to hear that.

Dissregard my comment in the other thread.

How is the growth pattern now?

You know, a picture is worth a thousand words....

picture! HA!

Len, what went wrong with the boiling? I'm about to do the same to my tank to get rid of stupid mushrooms.
