Im currently running a duel sump design. The first chamber holds the filter sock, skimmer, and a poly filter where i drop in purigen, carbon, etc.

It then flows through 3 pipes into a seperate tank used as a fuge then to the pumps.

im planning on a new design where the first tank would contain a larger fuge, then in to the second tank where i would place the skimmer and all other equipment..

My question is, my fuge has a 6'' DSB, and if i were to change the setup, would ripping apart the DSB be a disaster waiting to happen?

the main purpose for the fuge is nutrient export, but its always been a bonus getting all the pods in the tank since my goby relies on them...would having a skimmer after the fuge eliminate this?

Any input is appreciated..thanks

how old is the 6" DSB?
and i don't think it matters where you put your skimmer, but naturally, if creatures have to survive a needle wheel obstacle course, their chances are a little slimmer.
i have mine before the refugium, but even still, my filter socks which are also before my refugium, are full of amphipods/copepods every time i change them out. so, they are making their rounds through the system, no matter what.

The DSB is a little under 10 months old...

the flow through the sump is pretty quick, the dolphin is pushing some crazy GPH so the skimmer cant catch all of the water passing...hopefully some survivors make it past..

i think whatever you choose will be fine.
i'd be somewhat worried about disrupting that sand though. you might move it to the new setup, then keep that part of the sump closed off for a few days till it completely settles.
