Is it all one species or are there different types? I'm trying to figure out if there is a better one to get for Aiptasia.

What seven said :D

Peps are my personal choice for aiptasia removal and control. However, you'll want to buy multiples, to ensure you'll get at least two or three that will mow them down.

Unfortunately, they can be hit or miss.

True peppermints are Lysmata wurdemanni often times confused with humpbacks which is Lysmata somethingIforget. If you are after aiptasia removal, you want the real peps...

Humpback shrimp are Rhynchocinetes durbanensis. :D

Yes they get confused with camelback shrimp but once you see the two side by side there's no confusion.

I have heard of people claiming that there were infact two seperate types of real peppermints. One that would eat aiptasia and the other would not. I don't think there are. They just seem to be a hit or miss thing. Nothing guarantees they will eat the anemone unfortunately.

There are some other Lysmata spp. that look similar and might be sold under the common name. I even saw some Urocaridella sp. shrimp sold as "peppermints" once. :D

FWIW, The NJ Reef Club crew that threw the fragswap I was at today are pretty darn cool people :D It's nearly 5am and I am just finally looking at some sleep :)
