I think they are like a lot of other clowns in that they can change their sex. If you buy another small one, one should grow larger into the dominant female and the male stays smaller. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

if the fish is more than 3 months old ( i think ) then it will more than likely be female. clowns automatically become female after a certain amount of time. Safest bet is to get a juvenile clown to put in with your current fish. good luck!!!

This is incorrect.

put a bunch of juvenile clown fish together.

the most dominant one will turn into a female,
then next dominant one will turn into the male
the rest will 'stay juvenile'
And there's no set time scale.

If you have 10 clowns in one tank, in most cases, you'll have one female, one male, and a bunch of juvies. Take those two out (male and females) and then in a while you'll have another pair of male and female.

But you are correct about adding a young one. If you have one (or two) clowns already, add a small one. Once there's more than one fish, the dominance dances will begin!
