Is this water OK?

I have a 60 gallon tank in my garage that i use for water changes. I'm due to do a water change soon. I have been primering, painting and polyurethaning some shelves in the garage over the last couple of weeks. It reeks of chemicals at times, the water has been covered with only a small hole for water lines and powerhead cords. Will this water be OK to do a water change with? Or has it been 'contaminated' by fumes?

Run it thru actived carbon, and it should be alright.

If it was RO/DI with no salt in it it will "grab" Ions out of the air, but if it was covered that is good. Did you have an air stone running in it durring that time, if so the air pump would have indroduced the fumes into the water.

Thanks for the responses, the water is unsalted RO, but not DI. It has 4 powerheads moving the water, but no airstones.
