Skimmer in sump or in tank?

I have a tunze Intank skimmer 9005... i was wondering if it would benefit more from being in the chamber as my return pump from my sump skimming and sending water back or would it be better IN the tank?

i think you're better of in the sump. that seems to be the norm around here mainly because it will get rid of the bubbles that get created by skimmer, as well as providing for even more flow and circulation/aeration of the water.

one problem with that.

thats my sump. The only place i can put the skimmer is in the same compartment as my return pump where it fits nicely.


the flow of water thru my sump would be


Tank -> Nylonbag with Carbon -> 100Micron -> LiveRocks -> Space Underlive rock filled with water -> Polishing Sponge -> then into the chamber with my return pump.. where i would put he skimmer.


By the time the water gets to the skimmer it will be mad clean then whats the purpose of the skimmer then?
