Doing some research before purchase....Considering a RBTA for my 30 gallon. Real estate/live rock placement is at a premium. I have several "ideal" spots to place the RBTA but whats the guarantee that it wont replace itself somewhere that is not aesthetically correct? Like attach its base up against the front glass. Any suggestions or links would be appreciated.

What is your lighting like? It may climb the glass to get higher if there is inadequate flow or lighting...

There is no guarantee it sill stay where you put it- at all. It WILL move at some point. BTA like to have some of their base in a hole, and their tentacles exposed. With what sounds like a small crowded tank, consider carefully...

I would strongly encourage you to buy captive raised anemones, if possible. Check the boards or your local reef club for tank raised specimens. www.drmaccorals.com also sells tank-raised BTA's, though not the Rose color variation.

I have several 3-6" "holes" in my rock work that extend down to the substrate-that would work perfect if I placed the RBTA in one of these holes and she stayed put. The lighting is the Sunpod 20" 150 watt hqi. thanks for the info.

Sounds good. Make sure you feed the anemone regularly. Feed whole prey items, like whole shrimp, not just the "meat". If you need additional reading on anemones, there is a short 25-page book called Host Anemone Secrets by Ron Shimek, which will give you some good background.

Again, go for tank-raised specimens if you can...

Best, Peter

all the anemones i've ever owned moved somewhat. my most recent rbta moved around in a circle and eventually got back to where it started. my gbta took up residence in a bunch of pink palythoas.

you cant really place an anemone...it just kinda places itself. you can try to put him somewhere visually apealing, but it dosnt neccesarily mean he will stay...i found that out the hard way when i first got mine...it took out a couple of frogspawns and a maze brain until it found its spot...

i give up on trying to make bta stay still. they always move in the beginning, hopefully they find a place they like and they will sit there for a long time. mine bta usually finds a place with medium light and medium and random current.
