I think my Crocea has it. Was looking into "Pinched Mantle." It seems like there is no known cause for it. My nitrates was a bit high, and I think that caused problems for my clam. Everything else is fine. I was overfeeding, so I did big water changes to bring things into normal. Hopefully with time the clam will improve.

I'll try to post pictures later, but I'm thinking Pinched Mantle is the problem from the pictures I've seen online

they say to run carbon right away, from what i've read. if in fact it is pinched mantle, a freshwater dip for about 15 minutes in R.O. water will cure it, but it's tremendously stressful to the clam. make sure you are 100% accurate about this before preceeding.

I've checked the shell. I don't see anything. I'm not sure if it's Pinched mantle either. It just looks like it has it. My nitrate has been high (20ppm) for the past couple weeks and I think that's the cause of it's distress. It hasn't opened up all the way for the past week. It did look better after the WC though

Just got home. It's pretty much closed up. The clam doesn't have a strong grip on the rock anymore. I just did a quick water change. Will be out of town for a few days. *crosses finger*

I recently had it or at least that was my best guess. Purchased a maxima from a friend that had pinched mantle but we knew less about it then, as I have since read up a lot on it.

Lost the maxima but I believe it infected my two derasa,s and my crocea somewhat. It seems the crocea,s are more resistant to the infection.

I did a freshwater bath on the three clams. Guess around 20m. Make sure ph and temps are the same as the tank water. The clams quickly recovered but the pinched mantle came back in a week. I read more on "clams direct" regarding pm and came upon the articles on excessive iron from phosphate removers making pm worse.

Gave the clams a 2nd. bath, removed my gfo and added more carbon to help with any excessive iron removal. I would guess something like Chemi-pure or Poly filters would work even better.

Its now been a couple weeks and no sign of the disease. I cant say its the 2nd. bath, the removal of the gfo or likely both. I will at some stage, when I,m sure the pinched mantle is gone, add some gfo again and watch close.

You can see the start of it on the derasa,s left side.

My clam didn't make it. I came home to an empty shell. :(

sorry bro. :(

Thanks. I think it was due to high nitrate. I had too much confidence in my skimmer so I neglected to check it as much.

Quick question X, I fragged the xenia and what do you think is a fair deal. I'm thinking $5 each. I only fragged 3.

i sell the big ones for 10 or 15...little ones for less..all depends on the situation. i would say it's a matter of preference. there isn't a "going rate" really.

It was pyramid snails. I see them everywhere now. I did a bit of research and it mentioned to check with a flashlight 3 hrs after lights are off.

Do I just siphon them out?
