Just curious if the current economy has impacted anyone's reefkeeping interest or habits.

Zip.

The only thing is that I have noticed is that the "Trickle Down Theory" ALWAYS works when water is involved.

Not me, I am just getting back into it and remembering how much I used to spend on this hobby lol.

Business for me in my store (toys) has been up overall this year so far over 10% in January and more so far in Febuary, I really dont think all markets are on a decline even if the nation is in general. I dunno... I am a spender so Ill be the first one broke too 8O

Here in Michigan the economy is pretty awful. I've noticed a huge increase in people selling out systems on our local board due to economics :( many of them directly related to job loss.

$600 on my new tank setup...$750 in corals to start it off...all amidst my condo renovations.

Nope.

Peace,

Chip

New born is affecting mine. Thinking about getting rid of the system for making more room.

Well I'm not a big money spender for my tank, so not much, even though I will lose my job at one school as a result of budget cuts (yet they can fricking hire a full time teacher, but not a part timer who's way more economical short and long term)

I'm sorry to hear that, sfsu (whenever I read your nick, I always think "STFU", sorry). Cali's budget woes will probably only increase, what with more and more business moving out of state (out of country, even). I'm sure you read about Hershey last week.

I got into my current hobby to save money, so the economy has affected my hobby, if that makes sense. ;)

My tank is not really in need of anything other than up keep items so not really. I could use a few more corals to finish up, but I have some bass stuff I want to get so that is having an impact on where I spend my "play money".

Due to the cratering economy, I'm going to get a DAS skimmer instead of a Deltec and Maximods instead of Vortechs.

In terms of livestock, I was planning on getting a joculator but will have to settle for a bicolor now.

When you are single you can do stuff like that. If I would drop $1350 on my tank there would be hell to pay.

I seriously don't know that I'd be starting in this hobby right now, as opposed to 10 years ago. My only expenses are maintainance items so it's not a problem.

True, but that's another reason why I'm single. :)

Eh it happens, don't know if I'd call it "the economy" that's making me lose money, just the fact enough idiotic Californians thought a movie actor can run something as complicated at the state!

Besides I'll have money coming in, and most likely won't be hurting or changing my spending habits terribly much (less vacations maybe :D), just instead of my savings going up by a couple thousands every month, it'll only go up by about half that.

Maybe I should pull my money out of the stock market and invest instead in one of these:

If the dollar goes down in value it might be worth even more. Oh wait, I'd still have to find someone crazy enough to actually buy it from me, assuming it lives. On second thought, maybe the stock market isn't that risky after all.
