Hey guys,

I'm ready to buy a chiller for my tank. I have a 55 gallon, so I'm assuming 1/10 or 1/15 would be fine. I found one for cheap on a forum, it's Pacific Coast Imports CL-150, is it any good? I'd like to get something that's not too pricey and i want it to be QUIET. Any other things I should really look for?

Thanks.

1/10 is a good size (1/15 if you don't need much chilling, but I would suggest the 1/10).

IMO, thermoelectric type (peltier) chillers like the CL-150 aren't very effective on tanks bigger then about 30 gallons. I'd get a true compressor style chiller. They are noisier though, but you want to get a chiller that actually can chill your tank.

I've heard mixed reports about Pacific Coast Import chillers, but I don't have first hand experience or know about their long term reliablity.

Consider Teclima chillers. Not the cheapest, but not terribly priced. Best thing is they are quiet. However, be forewarned that any chiller will throw heat into the room. After all, it's a matter of physics .... if you cool the tank, the energy has to go somewhere.

I have a Pacific Coast chiller. I ordered the CL 150 but got something else. lol. They messed up but oh well. SaltwaterCity uses the CL 150 on their display tank.

Len's right about the heat. My apartment got pretty hot and I needed a fan to circulate the room.

well i have the AC in the room, but my condo is on the south side so it gets sun ALL day, so even now with lights on it gets up to 81-82 and in order to keep it under I have to have windows open and that gets pretty cold :)
