I have successfully modded my ASM G3 to a thread wheel skimmer. It is creating more bubbles(not really smaller, but looks more uniform). I do think that it is time for a new impeller, I think it is going a bit slower. The impeller is two or three years old, so I am not suprised.

I also modded my Tunze. I made the intakes wider so they get clogged less and pull more water. I also cut the plastic cross out of the outflow. It has significantly icreased flow and the flow is more chaotic. It seems like a really powerful Korallia when the flow comes out.

Glad to hear your mods worked out Dan. I may open the intakes on a couple of my Tunzes...

The crosshairs on the outake of the tunze totally restricts the flow of the pump. The intake strainer also restricts the flow. I cut off everyother one and the flow is rediculious and chaotic.

I also cut off most of my overflow teeth. There is absolutely no scum on the surface of the water.

If I were to do it again I would have left the crosshairs and cout the outflow nozzle down as close to the screen as I could.

The other night I heard a horrible scream coming from the other room, which I thought was the fire alarm in the hallway. Well, it wasn't. It was coming from the Tunze's stainless steel box. I looked at the pump and a large turbo snail was in the strainer jamming the impeller. I pulled the plug and removed the snails.

So, to remedy this I drilled four holes opposite eachother in the outflow tube. Then I used fishing line to make new crosshairs. The flow is as if they are not there, but I would feel safer if the original plastic was still there. It seems those crosshairs are not just there to protect fish.

Oh yeah, I also should be recieving my Sure Grip maxi mod with the high flow impeller upgrade soon. I also ordered a new impeller for the Sedra(over two years old). Let's hope that will really up the bubble production. I also ordered a new titanium heater to replace that crappy Won Bros digital titanium heater. The thing has been going crazy on me and is not keeping the temp stable.

Wish me luck.

I had a won bros titanium heater that had the controller fail in the on position when they first came out.

Anyway Good luck!

Thanks for the update on the mods Dan.

I had one of those Won Bros titanium heaters start acting up too. I just cut the cord between the heating element and the thermostat and put a power plug on it. Works well on a Ranco controller...

I also use a bare (no thermostat) Finnex titanium heating element on the Ranco. Works well too...

Maybe i'll do that and keep it as a backup. My backup now is just a 100 watter. Okay in a real bind but not really enough for a day or two if my heat in the house craps out in winter.

I just modded my new impeller.....holy freaking crap!

I have micro bubbles all over the tank and it is not producing skimmate.

How long will it take to calm down?

I am guessing that it could be that I added a new heater, the impeller, and the new plastics in the sure grip maxi mod. Could it be that the residues are causing this?

Good to hear it, Dan. How's the tank doing? When do we get some new updated pictures? :D

I have been so damn lazy with the camera lately. I will try to get some photos up soon(I know that sounds like I am Lenning to you).

The tank is great. I did some good water changes and the tank is looking better. I was neglecting the tank a little lately, but it made a speedy recovery. The mesh wheel seems to be working well.

How's your tank been?

I'm almost done transferring everything over from the 75 to the 210. I will be updating the build thread soon! ;)

Now that will be something to see.

Can't wait.

I am having issues with my camera, so it may be another week or so for pics.
