Can anyone tell me the best formula to soak my frozen mysis in before I feed it to my tank mates. Looking for the all around healthiest bet, rather then just garlic for their immune system (AKA - Ick Guard).
Thanks, I really only know of that Selcon product.

I just found a new one made by BrightWell Aquatics. They have two: one with just amino acids and one with both amino and fatty acids. Selco is just fatty acids, I think. My adult fish are not using that much energy so I think they need more protein than fat. I have read that too much fat in our fishes diet can cause fatty livers and decrease their lifespans. But, my juveniles need the extra fat because they are growing so fast. So, I am trying both products.

Selcon is a different version of Selco, though.

But, I read here Hemdals opinion that products that don't need refrigeration are not really HUFAs. I hope he reads this and responds. The BrightWell products don't need refrigeration.

First off what are HUFAs?
Even though I do not know what the are, I still feel that food should be served chilled. With that, I am down for the products that need to be refrigerated. I may try an amino acid version as it is for a lion and I love to feed him. No reason making him rounder then he needs to be.
Thank,
J.

Highly unsaturated fatty acids, a good nutritional thing to have.

Take a minute to consider: Why would you feed any fish "cold" food, especially a lion that tends to swallow things whole? Do you think that's a natural feeding habit? Wouldn't cold food-or worse frozen- be hard on the stomach?

It takes all of 10 minutes to bring food to room temp. especially if you are rinsing it in tank water and discarding the excess (which is full of guck your tank doesn't need).

HUFAs are the fatty acid part of food, and I've read a few things that make me think adult fish in captivity don't need it, and for some it is detrimental. That being said, my lionfish got cloudy eyes until I started to enrich his food with Selco, so I do for him once in while. I would consider using and amino acid supplement with vits for large predator fish, but not HUFAs. They just don't expend as much energy in our tanks.

But, the BrightWell stuff has a different preservative, so I wonder if Jay thinks it's ok.
