If that is the circultion you are using for you tank run it. It will help keep things stirred up.

CL?? now what is that?

Closed loop. It is method of adding circulation to a tank without going through the sump. It is an external pump and piping.

ahhh. Then YES definitely keep running it. The more flow you have the better. It will help the rock cure faster as well, and reduce the dead spots.

Always wondered similar on my established tank.

Have ~3600 gph on the CL, with ~1000gph from the return. As the tank is in the family room, thought having the CL go off for a couple or three hours in the late evening more for noise than anything else. The Dart pump isn't bad, but room would be a little more enjoyable if say wanting to read a book in there after everyone else went to bed. Shouldn't hurt the tank, thinking slack tide.

(Basement sump so nothing from the return pump and the 2-2" Durso really quiet so overflows not a problem)

I do something similar. My basement CL Sequence 5800 is on a timer and goes off for 3 or 4 hours twice a day.

As to the original post - I would run the CL for the reasons already mentioned, and to trouble shoot the system. You may discover things you would like to change. :D
