My older reef is now two years old. I am a retiree with very limited funds but did not want to give up the hobby. But cannot afford any bells and whistles other than what came with the system when I received it as used two years ago. For many an RO/DI unit is not a "bell and whistle". Other goodies that are out of the question include a Calcium reactor and a chiller. On the positive side the system came with a water top-up. I have used tap water for the past several years and now that my shoulders are not so good I don't change water very often either.
