I have a PFO pro fixture. 3 250w XM 10k and 4 96w atinics. I was talking with Mike Paletta and he uses some 400 w 20ks too. Question is how can I fit 2 more MH in my hood? Anyone don this?

can you replace the acinics(i'm assuming CF) with VHO's or T-5 retros? it's actually a bit much for my 200, but i use 4x110 watt VHO actinics on my tank and it's wayyyy blue. i'm actually getting ready to change out the VHO's for T-5's.

Wow

I was thinking 4x96w vice the 2 110 watt 6' would be more watts more output.

So if I put 2 6' vho it would be bluer?

Next question.... Can I use a 4x96w ballast with VHO?

now...i don't claim to be a lighting expert, but i have 4x 110 watt 48" actinic bulbs over my 200. i do believe that two 6' VHO actinics will look better than your actinics though. you might get a second opinion on the amount of lamps.

i would like to suggest 4 x 54 watt T-5 actinics with individual reflectors. i believe this to be the best for your, and my tank. i just picked up a used T-5 unit for my frag tank and i'm sold on them. there's some cheap ones hellolights sells. you can mix and match your correct color bulbs. there are endless possibilities!

and, no, more wattage doesn't necessarily mean better penetration.

Cool

Just found out from PFO that I have 2 worhorse7 ballasts. It can drive 4 54w and down.

Do you think I should go with 4 36 or 4 48 with a foot of overlap? (72" fixture)

Thanks

i would go with 4 x 48 and put 2 in the front of the halides, offset, and 2 in the back offset.
that's how i have the VHO's now. i'm gonna do the T-5's the same way.
just research the bulbs. there is a thread on reef central about T-5 lamps. it's very interesting.
apparently the guy who sold me the T-5 fixture knew a little about matching lamps. i have one lamp made by ATI called "blue plus", and 1 lamp from UVL called "fiji purple" that makes the corals look like they glow in the dark, during the day!

Even get reflectors when it will be in my hood using the existing reflectors?

I do want to do it right.

I just came from my LFS and got a nice 10" blue acro plate and some 8-10 pink staghorns from a tank they took down.....go it for $60.00..... WOW am I happy! The blue plate polyps came out in 5 min! Yellow.... :D

I might go back, they have a pink plate thats about 18-20" wants 100 for it!
