How in the heck do I get rid of this red slime algae. I have been batteling it for three weeks now. I moved my aquarium to a new location three days ago and the sand bed was clear of it but sure enough in 1-2 days time it reared its ugly head again. I am not overfeeding...What should I do (it all started when I put a pice of seaweed in the tank which the tang never ate and it dissolved in the thank).

I have a 54 corner tank with a 20 gallon sump.

Is it just in the sand bed? Or do you have that and other niusance agleas growing all over?

If it's all over, then it's a systemic issue and there are many posts about possible ways to address this.

If it's just in the sand bed, then it may be a localized problem.

I get a little cyano growth on my sand bed every now and again. In my case, it comes from crud settling on the bottom and not quite enough flow in the lower half of the tank to carry it away. I can keep it in check with regular maintainance, so I haven't really felt the need to do anything about it. Otherwise, I would adjust my flow patern a bit.
