Feeding, what do yall feed? right now I have been feeding brine schrimp, bits of regular schrimp, in the past i have fed Fritz Invertibrate banquet.
has anybody used the fritz stuff, also I read about people soaking the food before they feed should i be doing this.
now that im getting corals in the tank should i be checking other prams beside the basics. What about kalk should i be looking into that or not until i get into the sps?
Well I use an autofeeder on my tank for pellet food, I mix a few different brands of pellet in there with different sizes. I also feed omega one flake, spirulina flake, and mysis shrimp. Mysis shimp is supposed to be a much better feed then brine as it has more nutrients. I also feed my tanks with cyclopeeze and oyster eggs on occasion.
I try soaking the frozen food in selcon but IMO it doesnt really absorb the selcon and most of it washs off right when it hits the water. If I am manually feeding the pellet or flake I will soak it in selcon as it absorbs and IMO hold the selcn much better then frozen does.
Oh About the water testing, yes. I check Ca, Alk, Mg, mainly. I also use a hanna meter for P04 and test N03 once in a blue moon. You need to make sure these are all in check. You will have to decide which way you want to add CA/ALK/MG if you build up a need to depending on the corals you add. I use two part dosed by my LM3. Kalk can be good for a few reasons but you will need to test before you start using it. If you use it make sure you have a way to slowly drip it overnight, you can DIY someting very easy to do this.
