OK OK, there is a couple reefers out there that do data recovery. I will contact them and see what they can do for you Len. The Hudson Valley Reef Keepers know whom I'm talking about :D

Wait, Len who?

Yeah, I was talking more about the taking more pictures issue, and not the overall suck of losing his hard drive.

I thought it was a funny comment Jim, I was just jumping in (not taking pleasure in Lens troubles).

Same here Ben. I keep my photos at home on no less then three drives and back up weekly when I am around :) If anything hits my laptop, it gets back up in three different off site areas in the US as well as at our office on two separate drives that get backed up on tape every few hours. If I loose my laptop and someone doesn't connect into our server within a week or fails too many times at my password, the computer erases the hard drive to CIA standards

Good lord 8O

Len,
I highly recommend an external hard drive. If you watch the sales, they aren't that expensive. I got one after my wife lost her hard drive. Even though most of our stuff was backed up on CDs, it was a huge pain digging through 100 CDs.

Thanks Gresh, but I'll be fine without these photos. The important photos are on another drive (and backed up already) :)

I have an external WD drive as well which I use but don't trust. I've had three external HDs crap out on me (and I've only ever owned five).

Had you been using a Mac and the Time Machine feature, you would not be having this problem.

I think the blame should be allocated as follows:

WD - for being cheap and moving production to China
China - for making piss poor products
M$ - for not including a transparent backup system for a consumer OS.

Len, Sorry about your data. I've lost a hd or two and it sucks balls.

Someone once said to me:

DIGITAL MEDIA DOES NOT EXIST UNTIL IT'S IN MORE THAN ONE PLACE! BACK YOUR **** UP!!!!

I back up everything like crazy.

Gresh, I'll talk to you this weekend about that crazy software you have. Sounds like something I'd like.

Hey, at least you still have your tank, Len! :D

Your house could have burned down and that would be worse. ;)

Ok, do I have your spirits up, yet?

I'm sorry about it. I've lost 2 drives in the past and I hated it. Even if it's not that important of stuff, you can't ever get it all back. I now have 3 hard drives mirrored.

It seems every time I pop in to RDO there's a thread about Len's inability to post pics... Len didn't you mention above that the important photos are on another drive? Soo... let's see em. Important must equate to at least a couple tank pics right??? No wait, perhaps you need some reverse psychology... we never ever want to see pics of your tank ever again. Besides... there's always that thread curse thing you'd have to worry about if you did anyways. 8O

I'll pop in again in another year or so to make another wisecrack at your expense. 8)

p.s. Sorry about the hard drive. Losing any pics is always hard to swallow. We have images in our memories but it's just not quite the same as looking at the image.
