Red? Hmm, never heard of a red variety. Does it have a 'hard' shell like valonia? Oh, a picture would be helpful if you can get one.

My valonia has a first name, it's O S C A R

My valonia has a second name...

I do believe I have seen a more 'reddish' form. Still pretty dark green with a red hew.

Like LawDAWG said, a picture is worth 1000 post.

The 'stuff' is strongly attached to the rock and does have a hard outer surface with soft inside. When I squeeze it it seems to deflate instead of popping and there is a feel of slime.

Sorry, I didn't see this post. But, that's not something I've ever seen so I have no idea.

I've seen it in some of my tanks before too but never bothered checking into it as it always stayed in really low concentrations and never became an issue of any sort.

No ideas on what it is exactly though, sorry.

-- How big are those anyway Lars? - Mine were always very small, maybe 1/8" at most.

And not to hijack your thread, but..... - Going back to the more common green variety, anyone know how long that junk lives? - I packed up a small tank full of rock for storage about a yr ago and am unboxing it again now and though its turned pale, its still bubbly and jelly-filled..... :? - Is it likely to take right back off again??
