It looks to me like that tank is overstocked, over-fed and/or under-skimmed. Any shots of the tank itself?

There is certainly cyano on the surface of that mat. I can see the red turf in the after cleaning shot, but the cyano covering the turf is undeniable.

Looks like what one side of a baffle in my sump looks like, algae grows on the side that gets a waterfall that clings to it... other side.. well it's always underwater.

New readers

New readers should check out the "old thread" and get themselves up to date on this old technology being package as something new. The thread that was locked by the very admins you seek the readers to contact ;)

Perhaps a more productive way to use a trashcan. BTW my skimmer works great!

New readers, if you find my info useful, but folks like Vitz, Lawdawg, ZooKeeper, GreshamH, or any other are irritating you with their posts, then tell the admins here:

Reinventing the (ATS) wheel or what are you getting at?

http://www.reefs.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1487781#1487781

this has been established a long time ago by tons of research-alot of it done during the 'heyday' of walter adey-who made most of the false/mistaken assertions you list as fact-a quick search on the net should lead you to the info so you can educate yourself

;)

ok-the title of this thread is 'new turf results'-yet i see no 'results' posted here :?

are you suggesting it might be far more sensible to not over pollute the tank in the first place, rather than add another waste producer to try and partially deal with the excesses of stocking and feeding ??!!

oh, the horror!! ;)

That is exactly what I'm suggesting. In fact, you are describing the methodology which I have just invented. As far as I know, nobody has ever advocated this method, so in the future, please refer to it as the John Henry Method.

I think if you're going to make this successful, that being removing nutrients from the water, you're gonna need a LOT MORE algae! I can't see how that one screen would make much difference. NOw, if you have10 or 12 screens of algae the water flowed over.. THEN maybe you'd be doing somethin'

Yes, I believe you do owe me sumptin'. Does a nickel sound fair?
I hope we can come to an agreement soon, as your debt is now past due. Perhaps you can suggest a good law enforcement professional in case it comes to that. :D
