So is there still a debate going on about blue xenia not being blue xenia but some other id? Also for those who have some is it any harder to care for than the regular pom pom, or red sea variants?
It is in the Xenidae family, however the Genus is considered to be Cespitularia. IMO, it is just as easy to care for and grows almost as fast. I can't figure out why it is so expensive or so rare. I have about 10 nice stalks going right now. Personally, I'd feel guilty asking anyone to pay more than $25-30 for a stalk of it. It is very pretty though when it is healthy. I have seen some tanks where it does not seem to thrive, similar to other Xenidaes.
The one that I saw are not blue-blue, but there is a bluish tint due to the way the cells are structured. When look at them at certain angle, they are just like regular Xenia. Is that what you have?
I do not have any yet, I was aware of the arguement over the family of the coral and interested in that. I will possibly aquire some blue xenia in the future. The xenia family has usually grown well for me in the past.
