ok I have two 250w mh over my 90gal and they are heating up the hood to the point of burning the wood. All I have for reflectors is some flashing that I put up at first to hold me over till I could get some ordered and that has been almost six months ago. The bulbs are about and inch and half from the top. should i Move them even further from the top? I just dont want them to close to the water. Will real reflectors help keep the heat back? What does everyone suggest?

If it were me I'd definitely put some spacers between the reflector and the hood, the air that's between it should keep the wood from scorching.

Definitely drop the reflector a bit. I put up my new 250w DE MH over a frag vat and mounted it directly to the wood (knew it was a bad idea until I could get bolts). Yeah, that wood got REALLY hot after four hours.

Spent $3 on some nuts, bolts, and washers.....problem solved. Only thing I'd change is the way I put the bolts in, the wrong way! Now I have to completely remove the bolts to change out a bulb. Doh!
