Magnesium levels too high?

I just recently started testing for Mg with a red sea test kit. This test has my Mg levels off the chart high. Does that sound possible? I use RO water and Oceanic salt mix. If this the true level of Mg in my tank how would I go about reducing it? Thanks.

Try retesting with a more reliable test kit first, I find redsea test kits to be one of the worst. Get a quality kit, Elos, Salifert, and Sera all make decent kits.

When you mix your next batch of saltwater, test the Mg to see if high Mg is detected there. It could be your salt. It could also just be a bad (old/expired) test kit. I'd consider a different test kit by a different manufacturer to confirm.

Another suggest I would have to check your test kit is see if a local store or other local hobbiest will test for you to compare.

I have always used Salifert and I love them. They are very reliable and easy to use. They are a little expensive but you get what you pay for.
