Hey everyone upgraded to a 92 corner this weekend. Eventually would like to plumb to the basement but for now will have to deal with a sump under the cabinet.

Basic question: I got some flex tubing that goes into a wet dry portion. No I don't plan on using bio balls but for now have this tubing a bit "kinked" as you can see in the photos below. Was planning on using the trickle feature for other media e.g. carbon

Would it be better just to move this to the compartment next to it since that is where the skimmer is going? Also this would allow a more straight run.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I'm just too tired to try re-plumbing. It's really tight in the corner so I'm not going to try again until Saturday.

In the interim should I just do some small water changes and manually top off until I can get the sump and skimmer running?

Also just wondering it is worth placing a 3/4" true union valve on the return. My pump is an eheim 1260 which is rated at 634 gph but the overflow is rated up to 600gph. Don't think I will be dialing down the eheim at this point but it may be useful down the line in case I want to go with a 1262.

ok major problem. Tested the plumbing and there is a leak underneath the bulkhead. It looked like water was gushing out like a faucet.

Back to the drawing board.

Any suggestions?

Find where it was leaking from.

1. Your return (tube on the right) the vinyl tube is not over the hose barb enough for me to be comfortable. I would be afraid of that slipping off.

2. I'm not sure how the tube is affixed on the left drain portion. If it is leaking from the bulkhead than your bulkhead is not installed properly. Either it is not tight enough or the foam part is on the wrong end. That foam part goes on the wet side of the bulkhead. Hand tighten it as much as you can then use the wrench for a 1/4 turn. That should be good.

Actual plumbers will have some better insight than I.

fritz. thanks. I am going to disconnect everything and then find out if the leak is from the bulkhead itself.

The rubber gasket is on the inside.

You're right as far as the return I pushed it in a bit more.

if you're eventually going to plumb it to the basement, go ahead and cut the grey overflow pipe. Cut a few inches off at a time so you don't cut it too short.

Also, the hose clamp on the grey tubing should be REALLY tight. I had a leak in mine until I cranked it down.

Thanks. Sounds like I should have just gone with flex pvc. I need to go from the barbed fitting down to 1" flex. I think I am going to try flex.

It's tough to work with the plumbing in such a tight space.

Check the bulkhead. I had the same problem when I set it up. It seems that the tiniest bit of sand or grit causes a small leak.

Ernie, is there mold on the stand? I would take that outside to dry in the sun and put a coat of good paint on it before going any further.

Thanks for the post. I was planning on using a coat of primer on the inside before I proceed any further.

Luckily for me there is no mold on the stand.

Steve: I checked the bulkhead last night and there was a small amount of sand on the threads of the bulkhead

The threads won't cause a problem as much as sand under that gromet will. Smart money says it just wasn't tight enough or your seal from the bulkhead to the tubing was no good.
