I visited a friend of mine last night with a monster 300g sps tank. He was selling small frags of this coral. I tried to buy a piece from him, but he reached into his tank and chopped a nice piece off for me. He also wouldn't let me pay for it! Thanks Doug!!! The last picture is the mother colony.

Groovy, if more people acted that way then ultra expensive corals would be reduced dramatically

If I can get some growth, I will make it a point to give some away.

Possibly one of the slowest growing SPS I ever owned. Don't hold your breath :)

Yeh, I'm hearing ya Goldstein. The mother colony was 2 and a half years old in a huge very well maintained system. It was probably six inches across(not sure how big it started though) but the owner was telling me how slow it grows. Probably one of the reasons the coral is so expensive!

Got me on that one, whats DBTC?
See links Gresham provided, but in low down is it's a "pay it forward" program our club started where people *gasp* freely give corals out to others with nothing more than reassurance they'll grow them out and frag the corals to give to 2 (or more) others. Although it's also seem to mutate into a "Coral bank" in case of a tank crash or other type of loss to the colony others have it so you can get a piece back.

There was an article, I forget if it was AA or RK e-mags, talking about one particular club who did something similar to this well before our club did, so we didn't invent it or anything, however IIRC the program was independently thought up by our club (i.e. we didn't see it occurring in another club, then copied), and our club has on occasion helped other clubs start up similar programs.

Ok, short enough?
