NP Waz. So are those two pumps blowing constantly or are they doing something special?

Both are running full out all the time.

I was getting pissed there for a second, I just upgraded my driver to the wireless from the original like a month ago lol/ Good to see they are upgrading them for free (just shipping), and upgrading the magnets for 10+shipping, or free if you bought the unit recently.

Thanks for the link Eric.

Yeah they're cool like that, I sent my rusty magnets in and they fixed it too damn quickly because a week later they talked about the magnets. *sigh*

Also if there is a demo of the Gen2 in any store or what not, they can upgrade via the wireless apparently, so you won't even need to pay shipping.

Well when I get back from vacation I may try the left side/right side on-off idea of your SFS and see if I like that better.

Hey since you have 3 modded maxis you can try it with two to start with, just to see if you can get the gyre like flow in the first place without putting any additional money into it.

Yeah I probably will. Is there some sort of tell tale sign that it is going correctly?

Well if you put some flake food or something in the tank you will definitely see the flakes moving very fast in one direction in the front, another in the back. If you have any sort of anemone, torch coral, kenya, colt, or other larger soft corals they should be visible pushed in the way of the current flow as well.

I do have to warn you though, that your rock work will play into this big time. If you have a big pile of rock on the backwall you might not get that same effect.

Actually I do plan to change my rock work soon when I add a thin layer of sand to the bottom. It won't be a large wall or anything, so hopefully I will be ok. Thanks for the help on this.

The new vortechs sound tempting given the problems people were having before, but I still haven't decided what to go with for my tank:

4 sureflow maximods
4-6 koralia k4's
2 vortech gen 2's
2 new tunze streams (looks like large nanostreams, this summer)

For a 200g (62 x 31 x 24h) with thin sandbed, open rockwork, and mostly SPS, what would you go with?

I bought one on sale for about $385 with controller. Flow is excellent but was unable to set up standing wave in my 72 Gallon bowfront tank. Perhaps, I have too much rock. My one complaint is the unit is now making extra noise despite good alignment. The sound does not appear to be the motor but does get louder at higher speeds. The sound started after I took the inner half out to wash crud off of it. I had done it several times before with no ill affect. I thought the extra noise may have been due to calcium buildup so I soaked it in vinegar. The calcium was removed but the noise is still there. Anyone else experience this?

yeah the noise is a known issue, one reason people like tunzes better, but I do notice that the noise is noticably louder after I remove them to do any sort of cleaning maintenance. Typically I run it at a reduced speed for a few days to get it to "sync up" but they are far from being silent.

Thanks for the input. I slowed my down a little for a while and adjusted the alignment some and its largely back to baseline.
