Does anyone else have 250 watt MH's over their tank? I was wondering what to expect as far as heat output. I ordered my retrokits from my LFS today and they will be in next week. Im putting duel 250s over my 75 Gal. I dont have a sump (my tank isnt drilled) So there isnt a sump to take some of the heat. How high over the tank should I place the bulbs to allow heat to be distributed by a fan? THe tank will be SPS only.

I am running these two 250w halides over my 75. I just have a small fan that kicks on when they start. The lights are 7 and 9 inches above the water. I just started this tank so I am still experimenting with the distance above the water. I have been running the lights 6-7 hours a day, and have not gotten over 79 degrees. The tank does have a sump and is in a cool basement. I am using 2 250w heaters to heat the water.

You'll have to run some sort of fun over them or they will heat your water up a good bit.

Just one of the downsides to the wonderful world of MH.
