Background:

In both of my previous setups (each location lasting at least 2-3 yrs), I've had salt creep damage both the wall behind my tank and the floor underneath the tank. During the time the tank was setup in each location, I tried my best to keep tank water off of both surfaces, but in both instances each little incident added up. I kept the tank at least 8"-10" away from the wall in both instances.

Question:

Does anyone use any kind of "shielding" on the walls behind their tank and/or underneath their tanks? I'm wondering about maybe putting some plastic sheeting behind the tank like you'd use in a shower stall installation and maybe some sort of drip pan to catch water that falls on the floor. Has anyone done anything like this before and if so, how did they do it and what did they use?

Thanks!

Shane

Never on the wall proper, although if you're getting that much salt creep I'd figure out exactly where it's coming from, obviously something in your tank is doing quite a bit of splashing around, for me I get more than I want on overhanging fixtures due to my overflow, my solution, put a cover on the overflow.

Wheres the creep hitting the wall? - Up high by the tank proper or down low near the sump? (Both??)

I used to get it down low near the sump from an uncovered sump return section with a high amount of splash. - I reduced the splash factor by plumbing the overflow line right down to the sump water level with pvc (a bunch of 45° elbows and holes all round) and then covered that section of the sump to eliminate the creep factor almost completely. - The only creep I had after that was a very light, very dry dusting but that was just in the sump area, the wall was completely untouched.

If you're just looking for wall coverings to protect it regardless of where/how though, check this out....

i think my problems come from my skimmer letting off all the moisture. try sealing off the back of your stand better and see if it helps.
