Livestock, drygoods, or otherwise :) I need to feel better about the LiterMeter3 remote pumps I have connected and doing absolutely nothing right now.

Well I bought a couple Vortechs locally, decent price though not the MSRP, but the owner of the store turned (was?) a bit of a dick in that he didn't honor (or even recall having) sales on particular items that he posted were on sale on the local boards.

Love the pumps, hate the fact that he got my money, I only hope he sold them at so close to cost that he really didn't make much, but I don't know what the "cost" on a Vortech is.

my first reef tank. It's been all down hill since then...

THOUSANDS of $... Gone. SHould have bought starbucks stocks when it was $.59

actually, I'm pretty reasonable. $150 for a 100 gallon, stand, crushed coral, fake corals, magnum 330, ect was probably the purchase I spent too much on (went hungry for a week)

But I sold that on ebay for about $600 a few years later, so I can't complain!

In order to increase my flow, I had invested in a double overflow. The thing was so loud you couldn't hear the tv. also that external skimmer was a waist of $250. and the power compacts. and the undersized sump. I'm getting a headache.

Len, no. Suprisingly, I have no interest whatsoever in setting up a new tank. I'd never do a 300 again because it's simply too much work to install. And once you've owned a 300G, anything smaller just isn't of interest. I doubt I'll ever have another tank again. I would have liked to kept the old one for a few more years though. I didn't have my fill of reefkeeping yet. I do miss the tank.

Sfsu, yes. I sold it for a nice profit however. :)

After my divorce I got out for a bit myself, almost a year. I kept all my stuff though and set back up a bit ago. I always had my nano at work though but that doesnt count lol. I didnt know you broke it down Louey, good luck if you ever decide to set back up. Sorry for the side track..

My most illogical aquarium purchase, well there has been many, but most recently although i am not admitting it yet my ozonizer set up. This is the third one I have bought over the years and this time I was thinking it wasnt going to be a waste. I plugged it in set the orp to 350 and the ozone has yet to turn on....my tank has a natural orp closer to 380...so I guess the ozone was a waste.

Yellow brotulid. Before I bought a yellow brotulid I'd look in the tank and I'd never see a yellow brotulid. After I bought a yellow brotulid I'd look in the tank and I'd still never see a yellow brotulid, it just cost me $24 for the privilige :)

'Course, that was back around 1987... one and only time I ever saw a brotulid offered for sale.

Plus 1 on Skilter. I walked into a local LFS (not in business anymore) and told them I needed a skimmer for a 29 gal. He said "oh I have the perfect thing for you its part skimmer part filter" I had never heard of it before so I assumed they wouldnt make something that...you know.....doesnt work. So I plugged it in and wowsers!!! What a piece of....well you know.

My last reef tank.
I built it into the wall. It was beautiful and successful, but given my financial situation at the time, I had no good excuse to spend that kind of money on a box of water. I moved out of the house, and all that money - gone.

Big reef tanks are a poor investment IMO.

Ehh...I've owned large marine tanks and small ones over my 23 years of doing this. I've come to the conclusion that smaller is better...the nicest tanks have always been the smaller ones.

Much easier and less expensive to make a 12 gallon nano look full and abundant, than getting the same effect with a 300 gallon which would cost many thousands. I find the small tanks every bit as rewarding.

Freshwater on the other hand, I will continue to go huge.
