What do you all think about a powder brown tang and a blue tang, both small and introduced at the same time, into a 75 gallon with 80 lbs live rock and some smaller reef fish. Good idea or a bad one?

IMO, bad.

While they'll do fine small, and the size might even stunt their growth, the powder brown will be an aggressive one regardless of tank size, but in that small size probably more so.

IMO most tangs need a bigger tank than a 75G. Multiple tangs in a 75G is asking for trouble. The smaller the tank, the more agressive tangs get.

A small yellow tang would probably be the best.

I never kept a blue tang, so I can't comment on that one.

I counter Louey's yellow tang with one from the genus Ctenochaetus, (Chevron, Kole, Tomini)

Definately not a good idea. I personally don't have experience with the Powder Brown Tang and I don't know which "Blue Tang" you're talking about. The Blue Tang can be a Hippo Tang, an Atlantic Blue Tang, or the Powder Blue. In any case, I have experience with Hippo Tangs so I hope that's the one you're talking about. Hippo Tangs are very susceptible to ich. If you can get the Hippo to eat veggie foods from the beginning, you're fine. If the ich isn't disappearing, you've got problems. Also, the Hippo Tang can get pretty territorial in a 75 gallon. It will dominate other fish in the tank and will not allow newcomers to adjust easily.

Agreed. Ctenochaetus bristletooths are, in general, smaller, more peaceful, hardier, and better algae grazers than most of the Acanthurus or Zebrasoma species. The best "small tank" tangs.

I had a powder blue and a yellow tang may they RIP, in my 75. They ate all day long off of the spinach, romaine lettuce...etc that I left for them. They produced WAY too much waste for my 75 gal. There wasnt any aggression problems between the two, it was just too much poop. Anyways ich got them.

I have a med-size yellow tang in my 75g and it’s been with me for years. Seems to be living without much complaint, but as all tangs are strong, fast open swimmers, a 6’ tank is typically best.
