WHEN to change lighting systems

I'm about 3 months out from setting up a new larger tank. I'll be moving from a 65g cube to a standard size 120 tank.

I want to move from the current lighting setup I have which is MH / T5 to a sole T5 fixture. I currently have an outer orbit 250w / 4xt5 light that is really nice. If I sell it I can pay for a good chunk of my new T5 fixture.

Should I go ahead and sell the light and purchase the other one now and rig it so that I can light my current tank with the T5s so that I can gradually acclimate them to the new lighting (same depth between tanks), or should I wait until the new tank is up and running THEN do it?

Will it matter haha? Did i just get up too early this morning ??

This is just my personal preference, nothing more:

Get the T5 fixture and set it up, and wait to sell the MH fixture when you're sure you don't need it anymore.

Very sound advice. For everyone one person that sticks with T5, there's another that runs back to MH.

Thats basically the same thing I was going to say. I am doing about the same with my tank as well

This would be my choice too. A little risk if you are banking on a set amount of money from the sale, but it is easier to keep what you have and move everything to the new home in one swoop.

Sold the current system.. ordered the new constellation... constellation getting here in 2 days according to UPS will ship the current system to the new owner tomorrow. I should be lightless for only 1 day or maybe 2 at most. Then the acclimation process begins

Ended up getting an Aquactinics 48" constellation and lamps from Aquarium Specialty so far the guy there has been great to talk too. Even called me today when he filled my order to make sure he got it right.

I have dealt with them in the past a few time and have been generally please. I've had some issues with a few of my other online venders so started shopping around.

I'm looking forward to it. It comes recommended just under the super expensive powermodule from ATI. Should be here tomorrow
