thoughts on the typhoon skimmer for a 75 gallon reef tank? I found it for 60 bucks which sounds like a good price. Any reviews on this thing?

A very poor design and very poor piece of equipment. For a $75g reef tank take a look at insump/external models such as DAS, Euro Reef, MSX/Octo.

If you're limited to hang on tank skimmers I am afraid there is not much available to handle a tank that size. Currently the only HOB that can is the Deltec MCE600.

There are a few good HOT skimmers out there for a 75g tank size. IMO the Deltec is way overpriced. If I were looking I would spring for an AquaC remor Pro. Great skimmers. I've had one and they work great.

There ARE plenty of HOT skimmers out there for that size tank, but IMO the remora is probably the best bang for the buck.

You can normally find them on ebay for a decent price.

Stay AWAY from Prism Pro and the Cyclone.

Hope this helps.

I beg to differ regarding the Aqua C's... very poor performers IME.

The injector housings seem to be hand made and they vary greatly from each unit making some of them work okay, while others not at all. The electric consumption and mag pump monstrosity in the tank are also worth mentioning

Also just because there are HOBs marketed for that tank size does not mean they can aptly handle it.

Trevbo,

If you are interested you can find MCE's used for about the price of a Remora on various forums.

Also, Warner Marine just came out with a new HOB line... one of the better designs and like the MCE the pump is not in the tank.
