I have a 75 gal with zoas, leathers, a few LPS. They have been under 4 - 110 watt VHO
I added 2 - 250 watt MH pendants.

How should I acclimate the corals to the new lights?
How long should I turn the MH on initially?
How long should I take to ramp up to normal lighting hours?

Speaking of which, how long do you guys run your MH a day?

Thanks

Well, I'd do it over a week or two and watch them closely for signs of distress. When I switched over to MH I only put them on 3 hrs a day for a couple of days, then 4hrs...etc. The current idea is that keeping lights on more than 8 hrs doesn't do the coral any good and only fuels algae so that's all I run mine.

Thank you very much for your reply.

That's about what I was thinking. I just didn't want to hurt the corals by going too much too soon.

:) well, better to go slowly and not take a chance of burning them.

What I would say since you still have the VHO bulbs. take a month or 2 to get the MH full time. Start with the MH for like 2 hours a day then after about 4 or 5 days move it up 1 hour. every 4 or 5 days.
