Secondly, I had this happen to someone I hired to clean a room (long story). I forgot I had left Algae-Free's strongest magnet cleaner (separated) in that room. She was cleaning the area around the magnet and must have knocked them around until .... BAM! The two sides came crashing together on her index finger. I wasn't around when it happened and got the most distressed phone call I've ever received. She was panicking, having no idea how to free herself. I had to calm her down and tell her to pry apart as hard as she can. I'm happy I wasn't sued.
Well Matt when you're able to type with the other fingers on that hand.... what type of magnets were they? I've had the weaker magnavore ones (go for up to 3/4" I think) on my finger and it's not very painful... but then again I eased them onto my finger (yeah I'm dumb and wanted to know if it hurt ) although I'm sure that's different then them snapping together...
Almost looks like something I did with those weak mag-float ones where it snapped on the skin on the finger, left a nasty blood blister that looked similar to that...
So was this for the "BIG" aquarium?? Because as thick as that acrylic is the magnet needed for something like that would most likely crush your finger into a paste... and you're lucky
Youch - that looks painful. Hopefully it's not really broken! I've snapped my finger in my Hammerhead before - didn't break anything but it sure didn't feel good.
A guy here in Denver has one of the larger Mighty Magnets - he accidently allowed them to come together one time (fortunately not on his finger). He had to send them back to the manufacturer to have them pulled back apart. I can't imagine having my finger stuck in something like that.
I've never let these 2 ends come together but I do think I'd have a hell of a time getting them apart if I did. The tank is 9' deep with 2" thick acrylic. Fortunately these were one of the middle-sized magnets they make.
It's less swollen and black today but my X-ray vision tells me it's probably got a hairline fracture. Not much I can do either way though.
