Hey all ,
How can I lower my alk level to be more in line with nsw levels? 2.60 meq/7.3dkh according to, Natureef seanalysis test kit I use.

My current level is 3.50 meq or 9.8 dkh
My calcium level is between 440 to 460
My Ph is at 8.4

Do add anything or just leave it alone?

I agree. It's fine, and more damage than good would be had by attempting to lower it.

I have a similar issue:
1/ to keep pH at reasonable level (8.1 - 8.3, depending on time of day), I use Seachem Marine Buffer (blend of carbonates)
2/ as a result, my Alk is quite high, in the 11dKH / 4Meq area.

How can I keep a high pH while keeping Alk at a reasonable level? Is there a risk for my sps that a high Alk triggers RTN (some reference authors are of that opinion).

To raise the Ph, either give the tank or room more fresh air, or, if I remember correctly too much DOC can lower Ph. Meaning more WC's or better skimming. FWIW, my reef runs from 7.88 to 8.1 lately with no ill effects. Also, a high Dkh wont caust STN ot RTN, a swinging alk will however cause those. Ive had my DKH as high as 13 in the last year with no losses

To the original poster,
IME a balanced Ca/Dkh would be closer to 440-460/11Dkh if you want to lower your DKH, back down your reactor or quit dosing so much. Of course, do it very slowy. If your corals look fine dont mess with it. Polyp extention AFAIK has nothing to do with DKH, it has more to do with flow, lighting and nipping fish.
