If you want stable parameters, do it more frequently. If you want more efficient use of your time, water and salt, do it less frequently. So depends on what you want to compromise, it can be anywhere from a continuous water change (if you live right by the ocean with access to clean seawater) to some of us who do it every other year or longer. Another parameter is the % of water change. It really depends on the type of things you keep and how you take care of them. More feeding, you will need more frequent water change with large %, etc.. The rule of thumb is that if you are not sure, you probably not doing it often enough.

I used to change 5% every week. But I felt the tank is not as fresh as it used to be, so I am trying to change 5% every other day. I was wondering if that is fine for the fish and inhabitant!!! Plus I do not have an RO/DI right now. Getting one late on. So I am using Tap Water and adding Aqua Safe/ Tetra to it. So I thought if lots of water change of this quality wouldn't be that good for the fish?!

I would personally recommend a 10% change once a week or a 20% change every fortnight over a 5% change every other day. Changing more water refreshes the tank more than a small change, no matter how frequently performed. I used to change about 30% every fortnight.

I'll try 20% change every forthnight. And see the result in the coming 2 or 3 weeks. Thank you.

I like to do 20%+ every two weeks. Of course using good RO/DI and good salt. If the salt is off adjust up the Ca/Alk/Mg as needed before you use it.

Depends on bioload. My nano I do 20% weekly. When I had bigger tanks, it was 25% every other week. But, I never kept SPS or other corals that need the supercritical water conditions either.
