Ya, one of the more interesting articles I've read in a long time. A gross summary is that output doesn't decrease (sometimes increases) on mag ballasts by drawing more power (less efficient) as the bulbs age. On electronic ballasts with regulated power, the bulb's output did decrease.
Yeah you lost bluer colors but gained red/yellow colors. I wonder if this same thing translates to bulbs that are already quite blue to start with (20000K etc)
