Here's a review that mentions the Iwasaki:

Product Review: Revisited Reviews, Part II: LiterMeter III Peristaltic Pump, IceCap Pendant, 150 Watt Ballast, and Iwasaki 150 Watt Bulb
Greg updates us on more equipment that he's previously reviewed for Advanced Aquarist.

Well there's a reason the 15k Iwasaki is called the PAR monster, it is brighter than many 250w bulbs. So yeah I think it'd be fine for growing SPS>

Thats a PAR36 bulb, has it's own reflector in it and using it in a LAIII is just silly :). Not 15K either but rather 6500k. The 20KK was discontinued as the backing was peeling off (from what I was told).

If you run these on electronic ballasts they are VERY bright - better than many 250 watters.

Here's Sanjay's review: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2005/12/review#h12

With good reflectors, I wouldn't be concerned about keeping acros and clams right down to the bottom of 24" tall tanks. For extra tall tanks (30"+) you might want to keep the most light demanding stuff up off the bottom.

Well normally for a 30" tank, IMO that's flirting with 400w territory. But Iwasaki 15k's under a Lumenarc reflector... well that combo's just crazy enough to work! :)

...especially considering the sucess you've been having with the clams basking in VHO rays under 20" of water.
