Scratched acrylic tank

I have an old acrylic tank that has light scratches from using the wrong kind of algae scraper.
Could someone with experience buffing scratches out of acrylic recommend a good scratch remover kit?

Also could you explain how to do it correctly? I don't want to make it worse!

More than a scratch as I recall, but some good product info that should be helpful was posted up.

sand against the scratch until you can't see it anymore, switch to a higher grit then sand against the previous direction until you see no sand marks that way, repeat until you see clear
