I usually just fill my cartridge and put it in and move on, but should I be letting a few gallons run through to waste first? Is there some reason to do this?

TIA

I usually just rinse out my waterchange bucket with the first gallon, then make water.

Maybe a gallon like Mr. B says, but it really doesn't matter, esp, if you run carbon in your tank.

There maybe some VOC in the first few gallon, but I doubt it is measureable for most people.

The guys at Siemens always run 10 gallons on our big unit to waste after changing.

Siemens folks are more concern about liability. Besides, you pay the water bill, and will order the resin a few minutes soon due to the loss of that 10 gal.

So how many acre-feet does the unit produce per hour?

Acre-feet?

It puts out about 200 gallons per hour.

Acre feet is the volume of water to cover an acre of area with one foot of water.

at 200 gal/hr, it takes 3 minutes to get that 10 gal of flush, so my estimate of ordering the resin a few minutes earlier is not that far off.

I was told by the filter guy that there is no reason to flush DI.

I don't flush it either. But I heard that there can be some VOC that maybe release into the water in the first few gallon, and for some people, they maybe a bit concerned
