Aptashia Spores?

By me having a load of aptashia in my overflow, it that creating more work for me in the main tank. I am wondering if they release spors that spread thoughout my tank, or if they just gro reguardless?
The few in the overflow need to go through 1 level of pvc (both up and down) a filter sock, skimmer, filter floss followed by the return pump. Just wondering if I should kill them, or just see how big it gets.

Do you have peppermint shrimp?

If so, the aiptasia in your overflow are providing intermittent snacks for your shrimp.

If not, yep, leaving them there is just keeping your removal efforts a continual battle. - The only way I have ever gotten rid of them completely is to bring in the shrimp.

Speaking of which, it might be time for me to bring one or two into the nano @ work. - Blasted Joes Juice has congealed on me and its a right pain trying to dose them now. :evil:

I agree peps are great for smaller aiptasia but IME they wont eat the larger aiptasia. I nuke the larger ones with kalk paste and leave the small ones for the peps to clean up.

The pep's could be tough as my Dwarf Lion loves to eat live mysis, and they are about the same size. My cleaner shrimp is fine with having a lion tank mate as well as a Flame Hawk.
I guess I will kill the aps with kalk past as that is my method of choice. It will however be sad to kill the Aptashia in my overflow box that is hudge. I have actually named it "Venius" (like Venius fly trap), because I am a dork like that.

If you can move your fish for a month or two that might fix your aiptasia issue and give the fish a nice homecoming snack as well... (For pep lovers, it'll also give the shrimp a fighting chance too as they'll get used to the rock work and its hiding places before the predators come back on scene..)

If you haven't tried it, I recommend Joe's Juice.. - I tried other methods (kalk paste, vinegar injection) with hit-or-miss results but Joes has been spot-on for me. Just doesn't work too hot with those tiny ones you just can't see until its too late. It also has a tendency to clot up in the bottle after a few months and becomes very difficult to dose from there.

Just a question, pepermint shrimps love aptaisia but do they eat OTHER polyps as well? Im supprised that they would eat only one species of cnidarian.

As much as I would like to move my fish around and grab some Pep's, I am going to say no go on that. I will just take the high road and do it right the first time.
