The guy at my lfs swears that the Marshal Island Flame Angel is reef safe. Have any of you ever heard this? I did however, go ahead and buy one yesturday. He seems to be ok so far. I have clams and a lot of hard coral.

All you can do is watch and wait, Turt. I'd watch him with the clam most closely.

It's a craps shoot. You might get a happy angel. You might get a fallen angel. Nothing about it being from the Marshall Islands that makes it less likely to nip at coral or clams, I wouldn't think. I had one that only nipped at stylopora.

My last dwarf angel I had for 5+ years before it decided to try some SPS polyps and once it went SPS it never went back. I had to catch him and turn him over to the LFS.

Well, I'll keep a close eye on him. I sure hope that it doesn't turn out to be a problem. He really is a nice looking fish.

Marshal Island Flame Angel

I love these. I used to have one a long time ago. Had absolutely no orange on him. Just a stunning red background 8O

I have noticed that a large number of my hard corals have pulled all their polyps in for some time now. So, naturally, I figured that something was wrong with my water quality. I was wrong, it is the flame angel. He is nipping at all the carals. Doesn't look like he's doing damage, but is definently disturbing them enough to pull their polys in. What do you think that I should do about this? Should I remove the angel from the tank and if so, how should I go about catching him?

Try feeding him seaweed selects soaked in Selcon. It seems that my coral beauty is too busy picking at the seaweed to bother with the corals.
My bicolor blenny picks at my monti's polyps from time to time. :(

I would pull him out but hats just me. You can try the typical fish traps, feeding a fish in a acrylic box in the tank for a few days and then closing him in with a net. Or pull the tank apart and catch him, that was what I have had to do many time in the past.

The only way I was able to remove my Flame in the end was to put most of the live rock and coral in buckets until there wasn't anything else for him to hide in. Very frustrating, but if you approach it well-prepared, it's less hassle than it sounds (though not much less).
