I just received a shipment of some sps frags, and like most frags, it arrived on mounted plugs. Some of the acros are pretty well encrusted on the plugs. My issue is some of these plugs have various growths on them (e.g. algae), and I generally don't trust other people's plugs :P Usually the frags aren't encrusted all over the plug yet, so they're easy to remove. Should I bother trying to remove an encrusted Acro?

Well that’s kind of a personal opinion so it’s your call. But if it were me I would remove any part of the plug that does not have corals encrusting on it; basically breaking away any part of the plug you can visually see. Any area that can’t be removed can be covered with super glue.

Ya, I think I can chip/cut away the parts that isn't part of the coral. My other thought was just to take a new razor blade and slice it off where the base touches the flat plug, if it's possible.

I'm super paranoid about pests these days :P I actually am ok with the ORA type plastic plugs though since they're so easy to clean.
