Sounds from the article like this whale was involved in 2 other deaths, but didn't necessarily kill them.

It's a multimillion dollar investment that also happens to be an unpredictable wild animal. The same rules that apply to dogs that bite just don't apply here.

I just read the whale had been implicated in two others deaths and that troubled me they'd still use it with a crowd and live people anywhere near, but then again this is like handling any dangerous animals it's an elective game no complainers after the fact

I think that's the whale that "intentionally", so they think, jumped up and landed on it's trainer with death as a result.

It is very sad and I feel very bad for the trainer's family, but the name of this animal is 'killer whale'. As such, it is well known that there is a certain degree of danger already expected from working with an animal of this sort, but if this particular specimen has been involved in the killing of three people now then I think it is time to put it out to pasture somehow and realize it isn't safe for humans to work with the animal.

That particular killer whale was a wild caught whale 30 years ago and now is the Alpha Male of their whale population. Certainly there are multimillion involvement. In addition to this with the whale in captivity for 30 years, they cannot just release him back to the wild either.

They *won't* release him because he is a prized stud. He is not alpha male in the pod, however. Based on what I've read it appears that he is shunned by the other orcas until they are in estrus and ready to breed. Other than that, he's by his lonesome.

I missed this. That incident resulted in a lawsuit, which was sealed at the request of the defense lawyers. It was intimated in the judge's statement, however, that the whale that landed on the trainer was, in fact, quite ill, and possibly even blind, and *that* was likely the cause of the accident. It is factual, though, that they are not the same animal.
