How'd you manage that one Matt? Obviously there's some flash involved, but I would think that would reflect off the front pane, external flash?

Saw that tank again the other day... man that is a sweet looking setup... makes me wish I had the dedication to keep a non-photosynthetic tank. I saw your auto-feeding timer, but do you (or one of your underlings) spot feed any of the corals in that tank?

Yeah, like Gresh says that was Rich's shot, he spent quite a bit of time in front of that tank shooting the fish. IIRC he did use a flash on all his shots, but it was a handheld flash that he had off to the side at an angle to avoid the reflection off the acrylic. I'm sure if you wanted to know more he could fill you in.

Yes, I use a good old turkey baster and hit up the Tubastrea colonies 3-4 times a week with chopped up mysis, fish eggs, baby brine and such. I turn off all the flow in the tank first. The fish eat any leftovers. It makes for a pretty good show based on the number of flash bulbs I see going off. :wink: The other corals just eat what goes in with the autofeeder. Diodogorgia is growing real quickly, and I hope to add some more Scleronephthya soon.

Next time you check it out look closely on the rocks--there are probably ~50 baby orange polyps all over the rockwork.

That's pretty much it...or you can bounce the flash up. Some people like a mounted flash, but I like to hold it so I can move anywhere I like and change the drama angle of the light. Patience and fiddling is the key.
