Hello all together
my name is martin, I`m coming from Austria, Theresienfeld, a little town near vienna, and I wan`t to introduce myself in this Forum with my first Thread, and I have a big demand to help me and my friends everywhere here in Austria and perhaps in the rest of Europe.
A german man have started a new petition against the shark finning, I know this issue is an really very often discussed, but I think its very important for us alle that our sharks will survive, I say the hope dies at last.
Please look at this Link in Germany :
http://petition.stop-finning.com/
Please fill in and help - in America there are too much people - perhaps we all together - american and european - are loud enough to hear our voice.
I love this animals from the first moment I saw them in TV as I was 4 years old. The first pictures which I signed were not of gardens or houses, they were pictures of sharks :)!
And from the moment as I saw them by scuba diving in Egypt in the free wildness, by the brother Islands it was one of the most fascinating moment in my live.
No fear, only silence, they are not the every time hungry beasts which the media is showing to us. I love them and don`t wanna loose them. Without sharks our Sea will be on death now.
Greetings from Austria
Martin Hauser

Excuse me
I do not mean that the americans are favor for finning, I asked for voices in the Petittion to do anything against it. It`s written in german - and it ist a defense against finning. It goes at the end to the european government in "Brüssel"!
thx

The nations that are doing it don't care what other governments think, say, or do... that is the problem. The largest consumer of them listens to no one in the harvesting of the sea issues, human rights, etc.

FWIW it's been banned here in the states for many many years.

Not in the least. Knowing it would actually get China and such to stop consuming them... then it would :) All these online petitions do very little other then take up bandwidth and allow people to think they are helping. If you want to help, grab a gun, get a boat and start sinking the bastards that think this is OK

This is a tough issue since the are such a demand for the shark fins in Asia, particular among the Chinese population. The only way that you can stop they from eating it is to have some kind of study that shows the acumdation of toxic in shark fin that can cause lead or mercury poisoning, etc... This is going to be a difficult battle, and almost as difficult as to get people to become vegetarian.

Control the supply side of the shark fin industry won't do much, IMO. It will increase the price of shark fin, but that would only make it more appealing to the shark-fin consumer. It may sounds weird, but that's the case in certain cultures. When they see American use shark fin to make dog and cat food, maybe that would make shark fin sale to human consumption drop dramatically.

I've always liked the way you think :)

I like your thinking, sinking the boats will create more reefs anyway, sounds like a win/win suituation.

Hopefully they don't have much fuel left either :)
