Anybody here notice a trend in their own fishkeeping habits of "renting" fish (i.e. buying fish, only to return them later to the LFS)? There can be many reasons for fish rentals: you don't like the fish's feeding habits, the fish outgrew the tank, the fish is too aggressive/shy, etc. I'm not referring to sick/dead fish here, only perfectly healthy fish that you don't think you want in your tank any more.

I've done this many times over the years, with both fresh and saltwater fishes. I have returned fishes for all of the above reasons. Some of them I regret afterwards, but at least I know they have a second chance at a good life in somebody else's tank! Who else here rents fish?

Many of my LFS don't accept returns of live animals.

IMO, I think it's a horrible trend. Yeah I have fish I'm not particularly fond of, but unless they are being destructive I'm not going to remove them.

 I used to, when I first got into marine fishkeeping.

Speaking of rental animals, I've been thinking it might be good to rent some goats.

And then she goes the 'rented mule' route...
