My Dad's yellow tang has a white spot on one of it's fins. It started out about the size of a grain of salt but is growing. How should I treat it?

Do a search on lymphocystis. Last I ever dealt with it, there was no cure. I've never seen it be fatal, either, though always quite unattractive.

Thanks Seamaiden,
I think you were right on the diagnosis. The disease seems to have run its course and the spots are gone now. :D

Not at Dad's house. I would have to transport the fish to my QT.

For future reference, a QT doesn't have to be elaborate. Rubbermaid containers and a simple HOB filter is often enough to get by if you keep up on water changes. I always keep a container of sorts and stuff handy for 'just such an emergency'.

Thanks Lawdawg,

I had heard of people using rubbermade tubs as sumps etc. tut hadn't thought of using one as a QT. I would imagine the opaquic sides would help the fish relax as well.

They work quite well, and you can get some dry base rock from the LFS or use pieces of PVC pipe for hiding spots to help the fish feel comfy. When the QT is done just soak the stuff with a bleach solution, let it dry and put it away for the next time.

I prefer to use non-porous materials for QT, unless it's just a simple quarantine to determine a specimen is healthy before putting into the display.

B, I'm glad to hear that all is well with yellow tang. :)
